 Becky Loveday-Carter
Becky Loveday-Carter
Director

Becky became Interim Director of Lone Star when their beloved director Xanna Williamson retired in January of 2011. She led Lone Star to win a 3rd place overall medal at their competition just 7 short weeks later. Her position as Director was made permanent by Lone Star in April, 2011.

Discovering a love of music at a very early age, Becky has been singing almost since she began talking! Becky’s dad was a minister and her family did a great deal of moving most of her younger years. This made it difficult to make and keep close friends, so she turned to something she could take with her wherever the family went, and her love for music grew. Her earliest and fondest musical memories are spending long hours listening to and singing along with Southern Gospel harmonies of many well known Christian artists such as Dottie Rambo, the Happy Goodman Family, Andrea Crouch and many others. Becky later sang many of those Southern Gospel melodies with numerous members of her large Christian family… she sang solos, trios with her parents, duets and quartets with her aunts and uncles in their home church.

Becky’s family moved to Waco in 1966, and remained there long enough for her to complete both Junior High and High School. She joined the band in Junior High and learned how to play the saxophone, oboe, and then the tenor drum for the marching season. By mid-semester of the 8th grade, she decided her heart was truly in singing and gave up band to join the choir. She went on to excel in the high school choir program under the mentoring of teacher John Johnson. At the end of her freshman year, she successfully passed her audition for the “Senior Choir” and was also chosen to be a member of Richfield’s first “A Capella Choir.” Both choirs consistently won numerous district and state awards for “Concert” and “Sight” singing during her Junior and Senior years in high school.

In October of 1992, a good friend of Becky’s stumbled across a little local barbershop chorus holding a garage sale fundraiser. She was given a business card and encouraged to come visit them. She called Becky and asked if she wanted to go with her to check it out. The chorus needed to compete that year and they needed 17 members to be able to compete. Becky joined as a baritone and her friend joined as a tenor… members 16 & 17!! The 1993 competition held in San Antonio was where Becky heard her first barbershop chord ring while listening to one of the large choruses sing their package. She knew what her chorus was going to sing on that stage was nothing like what she was hearing and she knew she had to find a way to be able to sing like that… she had finally found another venue for her love of music!! Fort Worth Metro was approached shortly thereafter by Mid-Cities Sound and Texas Tradition about merging to become one large chorus. The merger became finalized in December of 1993 and changed the name to Lone Star Chorus after competing in 1994.

Becky began learning anything and everything she could about the barbershop craft. She attended regional functions and quickly became the assistant lead section leader. Under Director Charlotte Hoffman she served as Assistant Director of Vocal Production and Xanna Williamson served as Assistant Director of Choreography. As the Lead section leader she worked side by side with her Lone Star sisters as they won numerous regional chorus medals and made several appearances on the Sweet Adeline International Competition stage. Her continued pursuit of excellence in the barbershop craft led her to receiving a third place regional quartet medal. She began the DCP program which she completed and received her certification on April 26, 2010.

Becky went back to college in 2007 and obtained her Associates Degree in Accounting in November of 2009. She works as a full time bookkeeper for two small sister companies in Arlington. She feels very blessed to sing lead in Joyful Sound Quartet. Joyful Sound turned their focus to singing Southern Gospel and their first CD debuted in May, 2011. Family is still a very important to her and when not singing or directing Becky loves spending time with husband, Wendell; son, Rex; daughter-in-law, Tasha; grandson, Phoenix; mom, Gloria; siblings and extended family.

In the over 19 years as a Sweet Adeline, Becky has served in almost every capacity of chorus life, from Molly-Member to Board Member, and from Assistant Director to her current position as Director. She brings not only her love of music, but her strength of character and leadership qualities to this new role. Becky is grateful for the wonderful heritage that has given her such a wonderful and strong foundation upon which to live. She knows her talent is a gift from God and has dedicated its use to share His love through music with people all over the world.
